Hey everyone welcome to this Bizmates

words and phrases video series and

today's phrase is don't get me wrong

okay it's a great phrase. It's one that

could save you from a lot of

misunderstanding in the office okay so

let's find out what this means. Here's

what I sometimes hear. Now let's imagine

that I'm speaking to my colleague, Taro,

and I just delivered a presentation and

Taro is giving me some feedback on my

presentation. He says Hika you know this

this was good. That was good but you know

you should change this or this part was

not so good and he's giving me some

constructive criticism, some negative

feedback. And you know I say well thanks

thanks for your feedback. You know

sometimes when you give feedback to

people and you know the other person is

not so happy with your feedback. You've

been in that situation right? Same

situation. So Taro's giving me feedback

and I'm not so happy with his feedback.

And I'm giving him this kind of unhappy

look. You know that that look. And he says

oh yeah Hika Hika uh please don't

misunderstand; it was very good. Okay.

Overall, it was very good but this please

don't misunderstand phrase, it just

doesn't sound very natural in this case.

Please don't misunderstand. Okay so

what's a more natural way to say that?

You know don't don't misunderstand. Don't

confuse my feedback. Okay overall it's

very good but you should change this

part. That's all I'm saying. Okay this

please don't understand. Well we can say

this instead. So if I say well you know

Taro thanks thanks for your feedback.

And I have that unhappy look. And he says

hey hey don't don't get me wrong; it was

very good. Very natural okay. This don't

get me wrong.

It means don't confuse my feedback you

know. It was actually very good. You know

don't don't get me wrong; you're a really

nice guy. Hey don't get me wrong; I think

you did a great job. So after you give

kind of you know not so good feedback,

you could say don't get me wrong and say

something positive. Then there's no

confusion. It's clear and the other

person will feel good. Ok let's look at

pronunciation. It's don't get me wrong; it

was very good. Ok so the "T" is kind of

silent. Don't get me wrong; it was very

good. You try. Good okay with my sentence.

Um thanks for your feedback. Oh ok well

thanks. Thank you. Perfect. Ok so

let's practice this at home. So if

someone says you know if you give

negative feedback and someone says you

know thanks for your feedback, you can

just say not please don't misunderstand.

That's right. Don't get me wrong. Don't

get me wrong; it was very good. Ok please

remember that and we'll see you next

time. Thank you.
