Hello everyone! Welcome to E-mail Picks.

These two weeks have been the hardest work weeks of my life. I have so many things to think about and do, and unfortunately, I realized that I had forgotten about one of my regular tasks. Editing a video for E-mail Picks.

I am done with the shooting so all I need to do now is edit it so that I can make a video like the one you are watching now, and upload it on Youtube. But unfortunately I have too many meetings to attend to do that, so, today I’m going to ask my intern Misshel to do that for me. It will be her first time to take on this task, but she has been with us for over an year now, so I’m confident that she’ll figure it out.

So today let’s try delegating the task to her by e-mail. Here goes.

Hi Misshel,

How are you? My asking you “how are you” should hint at what I’m trying to ask in this e-mail. Yes, there is an urgent task I would like to assign you to.

Please find the video footages I shot for the next E-mail Picks upload in our department’s cloud storage. I would like to ask you to edit these and put together a finished video. I know it’s really short notice but it will be great if you could finish this by the end of the day.

Ask Yumi if you need any help. Good luck.

Kyota

OK. So as you can see, I’m providing hardship for my intern. I started out with a little joke. I asked her How are you? I mean, we sit next to each other. She’ll understand that this greeting is just a cushion before giving her a hard task.

Then I gave her the instructions, and also a backup plan. Ask Yumi, my junior colleague for help, if she needs it.

So that’s it. An e-mail to delegate an urgent task. I am pretty sure Misshel will do just fine with these minimal instructions. She has developed herself to earn that reputation. Good for her.

That’s it for today. Thank you for watching and I’ll see you next week.
