Point 126 ”picky”

「Picky」

“What are you going to order?
I don’t like this… I don’t like that…”

“Hika, you have too many likes and dislikes.”

“You’re such a picky eater.”

「Picky shopper」 →「

and today's word is
picky

It's a very short word.
What does this mean?

We will find out, but first let's do our test.

OK so let's imagine I 'm going
to invite you to go drinking.

And I say:

Let's go drinking tonight.

But you don't want to go.
So you say:

That's right.

I'll take a rain check.

It just means I'll go with you next time.
Not this time.

OK I hope you got that.
Lets go on to today's word -- "picky"

So let's imagine Taro and I are in a
restaurant having lunch.

We're looking at the menu
and I say :

You know, I don't like tomatoes.

I don't like this... I don't like that...

And Taro says:

Hika, you have too many likes and dislikes.

OK, it's a translation of Japanese English.

Likes and dislikes.
You have too many.

It's kind of strange English to say that.

You have too many likes dislikes.

OK in this case we can this...
So if I say:

Yeah you know, Taro, I don't like tomatoes.

I don't like... I don't like red peppers.

I don't like spicy food.
And Taro says:

You're such a picky eater.

Very good!
picky OK?

Someone who is picky is
very difficult to make happy.

So if someone is a picky person,
they don't like this...They don't like that...

He's very picky when he selects clothing.

When he buys clothes, he's a very picky shopper.

I don't like this...
I don't like that...

You know, it's very common expression -- "picky"

Often used with food.
Yeah, you're such a picky eater.

You're sucha picky eater.

You try.

OK with my sentence:

I don't like tomatoes.

Yeah, I know. I am.
I'm such a picky eater.

Perfect!
OK, for homework next time I will say

I don't like tomatoes.
And you say...
