Bizmates初級ビジネス英会話 Point 163 ”go with your gut”

初級者向けビジネス英会話 Bizmates for beginners 第163弾は、”go with your gut” です。

仕事で行き詰まり、思い悩むジャスティン。

“Taro, I’m so confused. I don’t know what I should do.”
「ああ、もう訳が分からなくなってきた。どうすればいいんだ!」

と同僚タロウに泣きつきます。

「君の直感を信じなよ。」

と言いたい場合、あなたがタロウなら英語で何と言いますか?

“Use feeling!”

これでも意味は伝わりますが、こんな時もっとハートに響く表現があるんです。

そこで
“Go with your gut! ”

と言ってみましょう。
同僚や友達の背中を押すときなどに、是非使って見て下さいね。

Hello, everyone and thank you for tuning
in to another Bizmates for beginners video lesson.

This week our expression is

go with your gut.

So very interesting expression.
So how do we use it?

What does it mean? Let's find out, but
first a quick review of last week's expression.

OK, everybody, imagine I say:
I don't know how to do this. Can you teach me?

What do you say?
You have five seconds, alright? Go!

And time's up, everyone. If you said

Of course. and then "Give it a go"
then you got it.

Nice job, thank you very much.
Alright so let's move on to this week's expression

go with your gut.

Now this is what I sometimes hear:
So I'm talking to my good friend and colleague, Taro

and I say:
Taro, I'm so confused. I don't know what I should do.

Should I do A or should I do B?

And Taro, he's got really good
experience and he has some

good advice for me he says:

Use feeling!

OK, so I think I know what Taro wants to say --

use my feeling, but that's not
very natural. Instead, Taro should say...

that's right

Go with your gut!
OK, so "go with your gut" means

to use your instincts, to use your feelings
to decide something

Now "gut" actually means your stomach here

but when we say
use your gut or "go with your gut"

it means don't think too much. Just go with
what feels natural or what feels right,

okay? Go with your gut.
Now for a rhythm and pronunciation.

OK, we'll group the first two
words together again

Go with becomes
Gowith

and "your gut" becomes
yourgut

so "gowith - yourgut."
OK, everyone? One more small point

please be careful with the TH sound.

I've had some students who have
had some issues with that pronunciation, okay?

So it's not with, it's with, alright?
So your tongue will come between your teeth.

So you're pushing air between your
teeth. You're pushing air out

so "with." Okay, everyone?
so please repeat after me...

Go with your gut.

Your turn, go ahead.

Excellent! OK, now after my expression:

I'm so confused. I don't know what I should do.

Alright, that's right. Go with your gut.
Very good advice. Thank you, Taro.

Alright, everyone, so please try to
remember this expression

and use it in your daily conversation.

Now this week's bonus question is another way to say:

You are excellent.

Alright, what's the answer? If you have
some time, go back into some of the

previous Bizmates for beginners video
lessons and try and find the answer.

If you have it, leave it in the comments
below and I'll get back to you.

OK, everybody that is it for my time this
week.

Thank you again so much, it's nice to see
all of you. Have a great rest of the week

and I'll see you next time.
Thank you.
