Point 166 ”a breather”

Wow! The negotiation today is really tough!

“Yes! I need to rest!”

“Yes! I need a breather!”

Hello everyone and welcome back to another

Bizmates for beginners video lesson.

Thank you always for watching our videos

and thanks for the likes and for subscribing.

Now this week for our class,

we are going to learn the expression

a breather.

Now, what is a breather and how do we use it?

Let's find out but first, as always,

let's do a quick review of last week's expression.

OK, everyone so imagine I ask you:

Was my presentation okay?

What are you going to say?
How are you going to respond?

I'll give you five seconds, okay?
Go!

And time's up. If you said

Yes! You really knocked it out of the park!

then good job and thank you
for remembering last week's class.

OK, everyone moving on to
a breather.

Now, this is what I sometimes hear:

OK, I'm talking to my colleague, Taro, and I say:

Wow! The negotiation today is really tough!

Our counterparts are really intense.
It's really hard to talk to them.

So my colleague, Taro, he says:

Yes! I need to rest!

Now, although this expression is very

good and there's nothing wrong with it,

there's another way to say this

that will sound a little bit more natural.

And -- that's right -- Taro can say:

Yes! I need a breather!

So I need a rest, okay?
Or I need a break.

So when you do something really intense

that needs a lot of energy,

for example negotiating with your clients

or having a really tough meeting

or if you're jogging or running for example,

and you need to take a break

You can say
I need a breather.

OK, everyone?

Alright, now pronunciation is very simple

nothing special this week

but once again, everyone, please be careful
and pay attention to the TH sound...

breather. Okay?

Make sure we don't use the S sound

like "briza" okay? breather

Breather.
Alright, everyone?

OK, so please repeat after me

I need a breather.

Go ahead.

Very good. Now after my sentence:

The negotiation today is really tough!

Alright, good job everyone! Thank you.

So remember to try and use this in your

daily conversation and remember this for

the review next week

OK everyone, so this week's bonus question is

another way to say:
Don't give up.

OK, if you know the answer leave it in

the comments below and I'll get back to

you and I'll leave you a reply.

OK, so that is it for our time this week, everyone.

Thank you so much for watching,

have a great weekend and we'll see you next Friday

Thank you so much.
