Hello everyone! Justin here and welcome
to another Bizmates for Beginners video

0:00:06.150,0:00:11.040
lesson where every week we introduce a
new idiom, phrase, or expression that you

0:00:11.040,0:00:15.750
can use in your daily business
conversation. And this week everyone, we

0:00:15.750,0:00:21.600
are going to go through: "give it a shot."
So stay tuned to find out what this

0:00:21.600,0:00:27.449
means and how to use it, but first as
always, let's do a quick review.

0:00:27.449,0:00:34.520
OK everyone, so imagine I ask you:
What do the customers think about our new product?

0:00:34.740,0:00:40.200
Okay but you don't know yet, so
you need to send something to the

0:00:40.200,0:00:46.469
customers to get their opinions and
feedback. So what is that? I'll give you a

0:00:46.469,0:00:52.140
hint okay? It is not anket, okay? So you've
got five seconds to think about it.

0:00:52.140,0:00:55.520
You ready okay? Go.

0:00:58.100,0:01:05.189
Alright and time is up. If you said:
"I will send a survey" then that's exactly

0:01:05.189,0:01:09.840
right. Well done and thank you for
remembering last week's class. Okay so

0:01:09.840,0:01:16.229
let's move on to: give it a shot. Now this
is what I sometimes hear... OK again I am

0:01:16.229,0:01:22.409
speaking with my good friend and my
colleague, Taro, and I ask him: Hey, Taro

0:01:22.409,0:01:28.770
can you show me how to use this program?
It's very difficult and I know you are

0:01:28.770,0:01:32.820
really, really good with, you know,
technology and software. So could you

0:01:32.820,0:01:38.220
show me please?
Taro says: Of course. Then of course, he

0:01:38.220,0:01:43.259
shows me how to use it, he shows me
all the functions and everything. Then he

0:01:43.259,0:01:47.340
says: OK Justin, your turn. Please try.

0:01:47.340,0:01:53.310
OK now although "please try" is okay, it's a
little bit stiff. So a native English

0:01:53.310,0:01:59.159
speaker may say something like this:
Of course. Okay then they show you, your turn.

0:01:59.159,0:02:04.200
Give it a shot. Okay? So it's a little bit
more of a casual, kind of a friendlier

0:02:04.200,0:02:10.979
way of saying something like "please try"
okay? Now you might also hear someone say

0:02:10.979,0:02:16.770
"give it a go" okay?
Which is the same as "give it a shot" okay

0:02:16.770,0:02:22.800
everyone? Alright now pronunciation -
it's very simple, however, when we do say

0:02:22.800,0:02:28.140
this very quickly - give it a shot - when we
say it very quickly, it all kind of

0:02:28.140,0:02:34.560
squishes together. So it sounds like:
giv' itashot. Sounds like one word, okay?

0:02:34.560,0:02:39.780
Give it a shot. Give it a shot. Alright?
So please repeat after me: give it a shot.

0:02:39.780,0:02:41.500
Your turn.

0:02:43.180,0:02:49.140
Good. Okay now after my question:
Sorry, can you show me how to use this program?

0:02:51.420,0:02:55.340
Okay good. Alright, so:
Of course. Your turn. Give it a shot.

0:02:55.500,0:02:59.760
Alright? Okay so please
remember this for next time. Okay our

0:02:59.760,0:03:06.180
bonus question is another way to say:
"old and traditional." If you know what the

0:03:06.180,0:03:09.840
answer is, you can leave it in the
comments below. If you don't know what

0:03:09.840,0:03:14.520
the answer is, but you want to find out
what it is, you can get it from one of

0:03:14.520,0:03:18.840
our previous Bizmates for Beginners
video lessons, so please take a look if

0:03:18.840,0:03:24.030
you have the time. Okay everyone, so that
is it for me this week. Thank you always

0:03:24.030,0:03:28.020
for watching. Have a great weekend
everyone and I'll see you next time.

0:03:28.020,0:03:30.500
Thank you.
