Hello everyone! Happy New Year and
welcome to 2019! I hope you had a
wonderful New Year's vacation and you
are ready for another exciting year.
All right everyone, so let's start, let's
kick off our year with the expression:
"bring home the bacon." All right so to
find out how to use this and what it
means, please stay tuned, but first let's
do a quick review from last year...
so actually that was just one week ago,
but last year's expression. All right now
imagine everyone I say to you:
I can't believe the year is almost over!
All right so I said 2019 is coming soon.
All right so how do you say that using
the expression from last week? I'll give
you five seconds. Are you ready? Okay, go!
All right and time is up, if you said...
that's right: "2019 is right around the
corner" or coming soon,
then that's exactly right.
Well done and thank you for remembering
the expression. Alright everyone so let's
find out how to use "bring home the bacon."
Alright so do you like bacon? I love
bacon, but what does this mean?
Alright let's find out. Alright so okay
I'm talking to my good friend and
colleague, Taro, I say: Taro, it's 2019. So
what are your resolutions? What do you
hope to accomplish this year? Alright
Taro says: Well, just work hard so I can
make money! I understand, maybe Taro has a
family he needs to support, his children
he has to work hard, so he needs to make
money. All right I understand, but you
might hear a native English speaker use
this expression... that's right! So he can
say: Well, you know just work hard, Justin
so I can bring home the bacon! Alright so
as you can imagine then, bring home the
bacon means to make money. Alright to
achieve some kind of success, to be able
to make earnings so you can support your
family or to support someone. So you
"bring home the bacon," okay? All right so
pronunciation, as you see it here
bring home the bacon.
All right so please repeat after me everyone:
bring home the bacon. Your turn.
Okay very good! Now after my question here:
So what are your resolutions for this year?
Good! All right, yeah, just work
hard so I can bring home the bacon, okay?
All right so please remember this for
next time everyone, all right? Okay our
bonus question this week is another way
to say: "expensive." Maybe over the New
Year's holidays or Christmas holidays
you spent a lot of money, so it was very
expensive. How do you say that using the
expression that we covered in... a few
lessons ago? If you know the answer, you
can leave it in the comments below.
If you don't know the answer, well that's
right, we covered it before, so you can
take a look if you've got the time and
of course we will put the answer to last
week's bonus question in the description
and information below on YouTube.
Alright so everyone, so that is it for me
this week. Whatever your resolutions are
for 2019, whether it's to bring
home the bacon, or to improve your health,
or to learn something new, I hope you
achieve it. I hope you have great success
in 2019 and I am looking forward to
spending much more time with everyone
here on the Bizmates channel. Okay
everyone so take care and I'll see you
next time. Thank you.
