Hello everyone! Justin here and welcome
back to another Bizmates for Beginners
video lesson where every week we
introduced a new idiom, phrase, or
expression that you can use in your
daily business conversation. This week
everyone, we are going to learn:
It's All Greek To Me.
Okay, so to find out what this means and
how to use it please stay tuned.
But first as always, that's right the review.
Okay so imagine I say: I have no idea how
to fix this bug. Can you try? And although
it's hard, you are going to try and help
me out. So how do you say that using the
expression from last week? You've got
five seconds to think about it. Ready? Go!
Alright and time is up. If you said:
Yeah, it looks difficult. But I'll take a
crack at it. Then that's exactly right.
Well done. Thank you for remembering last
week's class. Okay everyone, let's move on
to: It's All Greek To Me. Now this is what
I sometimes hear. Alright so I'm working
with my good friend and colleague Taro
and I say: Taro, can you understand these
contract details? It's very hard. Taro
says: Not really. You know it's hard to
understand. Right, very straight, very
simple good job Taro. It's hard to
understand. And contracts can be hard.
Right there are a lot of difficult
vocabulary, a lot of legal terminology
very deep very complex very hard to
understand. So you might hear a native
English speaker say this: Yeah, not really.
It's all Greek to me. Okay? So whenever
you cannot understand something that is
said or something that is written. Okay
because it's too deep or too complex. You
can say it's all Greek to me. Okay, now
just a small point about Greek or Greece.
Now in my past experience some of my
students were a bit confused about
Greeks. Okay, of course they
know that it's a country, but in Japan, in
my previous experience many of my
students referred to Greece as ギリシャ.
Yeah okay and when I said, Greece, it took
some time for some students to
understand exactly what that means. But
okay, for all of you out there
Greece is ギリシャ and in English
sometimes the way we use country names
is different from the way you use
country names in Japan. For example, ドイツ
is not noise its Germany in English.
Right? For example. Okay, so pronunciation
it's as you see it here so please repeat.
it's all Greek to me. Your turn. Excellent!
Okay, now after my question. Can you
understand these contract details? It's so difficult.
Not really. It's all
Greek to me. Okay, alright, so please
remember this for the review next week.
Alright to everyone. So okay, our bonus
question this week is another way to say:
Business is rapidly growing. If you know
a better way to say this please leave it
in the comments below. If you don't know
but you're curious, you're in luck
because we covered it in one of our
previous Bizmates for Beginners video
lessons so take a look if you've got the
time. Okay everyone, so that is it for us
this week. Thank you always for watching!
Have a great weekend everyone and I'll
look forward to seeing you next time.
