Justin: What kind of management style do you like?
You: I like a hands-off approach.
Hello everyone! Justin here and welcome
back to another Bizmates for Beginners
video lesson where every week we
introduced a new idiom, phrase, or
expression that you can use in your
daily business conversation. This week
everyone, we are going to learn: Hands- Off.
Okay, so maybe you can imagine what this
means, but let's jump into more detail on
this expression for today's lesson.
Alright, so but first as always, let's
begin with a quick review of last week's
class. Alright everyone, so imagine I
asked you: Are you ready to start the new
year? And yes, you are ready to have a
good strong start. So how do you say that
using the expression from last week?
You've got five seconds. Are you ready? Okay go!
Alright and time is up. If you
said: Yes! I'm ready to hit the ground
running! Then that's exactly right. Well
done! Thank you for remembering last
week's class and hopefully you hit the
ground running this year. Alright, so
let's begin the next part of our video
today which is the actual expression,
which is, Hands-Off, this week. Alright, now
this is what I sometimes hear. Okay, so I
imagine I asked my colleague Taro: Taro
what kind of management style do you
like? There are many different types of
managers. Many different types of working
styles and management styles. So which
style do you like? He says: Well, I like no
touch approach and no touch approach.
Okay, yeah I can imagine
what that means. But you might hear a
native English speakers say: I like a
hands-off approach. Okay so meaning you
don't get too involved in the details.
You're not micromanaging something.
You're not touching everything and
controlling everything. You have a
hands-off approach. Okay? So another way
you can use this is if someone asks you:
Do you handle it? Do you handle the let's
say marketing for your company? You could
say: No I'm hands off
when it comes to marketing. Meaning I
don't touch marketing. It's not my area,
I'm a hands-off. Okay, when it comes to
marketing or you don't really control it.
Okay, so it's a useful expression so
please remember this for next time. Okay
our pronunciation here, it's as you see
it. So, hands, the S here and the O. Okay?
They join together so it sounds like one
word. Hands off, hands off. Okay, so please
repeat after me:
I like a hands-off approach. Your turn!
Alright, good! Now after my question: So
what kind of management style do you like?
So yeah I like a hands-off approach.
Okay, yeah makes everyone less nervous if
everyone knows the main goal and which
direction we're headed in. I like to be
hands-off or I like a hands-off approach.
Alright, okay so our bonus question this
week is another way to say: Yes! It is
correct. Alright, if you know a better way
of saying this please leave it in the
comments below. If you want to know how
we would say this better, you can check
it out in one of our previous Bizmates
for Beginners video lessons so take a
look if you have the time. Alright,
everyone, so that is it for us this week.
Thank you always for watching.
Have a great weekend. great weekend.
See you next time!
