Point 120 ”Thanks for the heads up.”

Thanks for the heads up.”

“OK, thank you for your message.”

“Thanks for the heads-up.”

Hello and welcome to this Bizmates for
beginners video series

and today's phrase is
Thanks for the heads-up.

Thanks for the heads up.

Very natural phrase. What does this
mean?

We will find out, but first let's do our test.

So I say to you:
Ha, ha, ha. I have another joke.

Here's another joke...
and I'm telling many jokes

you're getting angry. What do
you say?

Very good.
You're getting on my nerves. Stop it.

OK, I hope you got that.
Lets go on to today's phrase

Thanks for the heads up.

What does this mean?
Well here's what I sometimes hear.

So let's imagine Taro was out to lunch.

So he was having lunch and I received a
telephone call

and I took a message for Taro.

So, Taro comes back and I say:

Taro, Mr. Kato from OSN Corp called at 12:30.

Here's my message for you.
And Taro says:

OK, thank you for your message.

This is OK, but...

You know, I am not Taro's secretary.

I'm his colleague.
Thank you for your message.

You know, it sounds a little too formal to use.

Maybe you could use it to your
secretary,

but to a colleague --
thank you for your message

it's little bit unnatural. OK, so what can
we say?

Well if I say:

Mr. Kato from OSN Corporation called at 12:30.

Taro can say:
Thanks for the heads-up.

Very natural.
OK, "heads-up" it's like an update,

message, report.
Thanks for the heads-up.

It's a little bit casual, but very natural in the office.

ok let's look at pronunciation, it's

Thanks for the heads-up.

You try...

Good. OK, with my sentence:

Mr Kato from OSN Corp called at 12:30.

Perfect. OK, so for homework
next time I will say:

Mr. Kato from OSN Corp called at 12:30.
And you say...

There you go.
Thanks for the heads-up.

OK, please remember this
and we will see you

next time. Thank you.
