Hello, everybody. Justin here.

Nice to see you again. Thank you for
tuning in to another Bizmates for

beginners video lesson.
Today for our class,

we are going to learn the expression
pick up the pace.

So what does this mean? How do we use it?
We'll find out in just a moment, but

first let's do a quick review of last
week's expression.

Alright, everyone, so imagine I say:

You know, I think our company should
try to be a little more international.

What do you think?
How are you going to respond?

I'll give you five seconds.
OK, everybody? Alright go!

And time's up.

If you said,
Yes. We have to change our way of thinking

nice job. Thank you very much for
studying and remembering last week's expression.

So let's move on to today's
expression "pick up the pace."

Now this is what I sometimes hear:

So I'm talking to my colleague, Taro,
and I'm a little bit worried. I say:

Taro, you know our projects are behind schedule.
What should we do?

And Taro says:
We have to pace up.

OK, everyone, thank you very much.
So "pace up," another expression that I hear quite often.

Now although the meaning is, maybe
easily understood, it's not something

that we would say in natural English.
So, instead...

That's right. We would say
we have to "pick up the pace"

which means we need to work more quickly.

Alright, so our project is behind
schedule so we need to catch up.

We need to work faster.
We need to pick up the pace.

OK, everybody?

Alright, so pronunciation.
Nice and simple, nothing so special

just a little focus on rhythm. So,...

pick up -- we'll put this together it becomes

pickup. And the pace, we'll combine to form the pace.

So you have... so the rhythm is
da-da da-da, which is like "pick up the pace."

OK? Pick up the pace. Alright, so we'll
group these two and these two together

OK, everybody?
Alright, so repeat after me...

We have to pick up the pace.
Your turn.

OK, good. Now after my sentence:

Our projects are behind schedule.
What should we do?

Good job, everybody. That's right.
We have to pick up the pace. 'Right?

OK, so remember this for next week and
also if you have time, try to find the

answer to our bonus question
this week which is:

A better way to say:
The business is growing up.

OK? The answer is in one of the previous
Bizmates for beginners video lessons

so check it out and leave your answer in
the comments below.

Alright, everyone that is it for me this
week, thank you so much for tuning in

have a wonderful week and
we'll see you next time. Thank you.
