Hello everyone. Justin here and welcome
to another Bizmates for Beginners video

0:00:05.580,0:00:10.440
lesson where every week we introduce a
new idiom, phrase, or expression that you

0:00:10.440,0:00:15.120
can use in your daily business
conversation. This week everyone we are

0:00:15.120,0:00:20.939
going to learn: "run-down." Alright so when
something or someone is run-down, what

0:00:20.939,0:00:24.090
does it mean? Well to find out
please stay tuned

0:00:24.090,0:00:30.330
but first, let's begin with a quick
review of last week's class. Alright

0:00:30.330,0:00:35.250
everyone, so imagine I ask you: How was
your trip to Italy? Was the flight

0:00:35.250,0:00:43.170
expensive? And imagine you flew to Italy
during peak season - the busiest time of

0:00:43.170,0:00:50.250
the year - so the flight tickets were very
expensive. So, how do you say that using

0:00:50.250,0:00:54.090
the expression from last week? I'll give
you five seconds to think about it.

0:00:54.090,0:00:56.400
Are you ready?
Okay go!

0:01:00.100,0:01:03.000
Alright and time is up. If you said:

0:01:03.040,0:01:07.940
Yes. It cost an arm and a leg
then that's exactly right.

0:01:07.950,0:01:12.900
Well done and thank you for remembering
last week's class. Alright everyone

0:01:12.900,0:01:18.750
let's move on to: run-down. Now this is
what I sometimes hear... alright, so I come

0:01:18.750,0:01:23.610
to the office and I see Taro sitting
there, but he doesn't look very good.

0:01:23.610,0:01:30.720
So, I say: Taro, are you OK?
Taro says: You know, I was here all

0:01:30.720,0:01:36.720
weekend. I'm feeling pretty tired. OK,
I can understand if you were here all

0:01:36.720,0:01:42.180
weekend - no rest, no break - yes of course,
you must feel very tired.

0:01:42.180,0:01:47.080
Now although this is OK, you might hear a
native English speaker say this:

0:01:47.420,0:01:52.280
I was here all weekend.
I'm feeling pretty run-down. Alright so

0:01:52.290,0:01:57.090
whenever you're feeling physically
exhausted, you're very tired, you're

0:01:57.090,0:02:05.670
feeling very run-down, OK? Now you can also
use this expression to describe a

0:02:05.670,0:02:12.730
physical location or place that isn't in
good condition. So for example imagine

0:02:12.730,0:02:19.480
you are in a very, very old kind of dirty
hotel room, okay, the carpet isn't clean

0:02:19.480,0:02:25.299
maybe there's a big hole in the wall,
you can say "yeah, this room is

0:02:25.299,0:02:31.420
pretty run-down" OK? Or maybe you can say
"yeah, the train is pretty run-down."

0:02:31.420,0:02:37.000
It's very old, the physical condition is not
so good, okay, or the roads are very

0:02:37.000,0:02:43.750
run-down or this car is pretty
run-down, my keyboard, or my mouse is

0:02:43.750,0:02:47.980
pretty run-down, alright?
So anything that isn't in good

0:02:47.980,0:02:53.829
physical condition is something that is
run-down, okay? Alright so please

0:02:53.829,0:02:57.400
remember this for next time, but our
pronunciation here is pretty simple this

0:02:57.400,0:03:01.920
week so please repeat after me:
I'm feeling pretty run-down. Your turn.

0:03:03.760,0:03:08.920
Good all right now after my question:
Hey, you look pretty tired. Are you okay?

0:03:10.920,0:03:16.560
That's right. Yeah, I was here all week
and I'm pretty run-down. Okay? Alright so

0:03:16.569,0:03:21.220
please remember this for the review for
our next class. Okay our bonus question

0:03:21.220,0:03:27.579
this week everyone is another way to say:
something is "very easy." Okay if

0:03:27.579,0:03:31.239
you know what the answer is, you can
leave it in the comments below and for

0:03:31.239,0:03:35.260
the answer to our previous bonus
questions, we're gonna start leaving them

0:03:35.260,0:03:41.049
in the comments okay, so when you go to
YouTube there's a little description

0:03:41.049,0:03:45.069
so you click the description and
then it drops down and then we'll leave

0:03:45.069,0:03:49.480
the answer to our bonus questions there
in case you decided you wanted to find

0:03:49.480,0:03:53.560
out what that was, okay?
Alright so if you know what this answer

0:03:53.560,0:03:56.739
is though, you can always leave it in the
comments below and I'll be happy to get

0:03:56.740,0:04:00.720
back to you. Alright everyone, so that is
it for us this week. Thank you always for

0:04:00.720,0:04:06.140
watching. Have a great weekend, everyone
and I will see you next time. Thank you.
