And today we have a really natural sounding
phrase or idiom. Have on your plate.

Plate. What does it mean?
Hmmm... We'll find out in just a minute.

But, let's do our usual test.
OK. So I've got a new cellphone,

OK and I'm gonna say, oh my new number is 090...

And you say...

Can you jot it down?
That's right. Did you get that?

And then I'll write it and give it to you.
Jot it down.

OK. So let's go on to today's idiom.
Have on your plate. What does this mean?

OK. Well imagine Taro and I are colleagues.
And Taro wants to know my schedule.

So he says, hey Hika, so what's today's schedule?

OK, it's an OK question. But it's a little confusing.
What's today's schedule? Today's schedule?

Schedule? Do you mean my schedule?
You mean the schedule of the event?

What schedule do you mean?
OK. So this question, what is today's schedule

is actually a kind of a confusing question.
You know imagine that I'm at my desk

in the morning. And then you're a close colleague
or a friend of mine and you come to my desk

and say, so Hika what's your, what's today's schedule?

It's a confusing question.
OK. So to sound more natural, you could say this.

So you come to my desk, I'm working.
You come to my desk in the morning,

and you say,
so, what do you have on your plate today?

Oh. And I'll say,
ah not too much. I have a meeting with...

Just like that.
OK, really natural phrase.

So, what do you have on your plate today?
And I could say, oh I have a full plate.

I have a full schedule yeah.
What do you have on your plate today?

OK. So, let's look at pronunciation.
It's so and that so is actually really important.

It makes it easy to kinda start the question.

So, whadaya haveon,
whadaya haveon your plate today?

We've got two T's, plate today.
So you don't have to pronounce both yeah.

So whadaya haveon your plate today?
You try.

Let's try it. OK, so you ask me and I'll answer.
Ready? Go.

Ah not too much. I just have a meeting with...
OK. Just like that.

So when you wanna ask someone
about their schedule, you could use this phrase.

So, try this in your office. Go up to one of the
non-Japanese people in the morning,

and say, hey good morning.
So, what do you have on your plate today?

Just like that. And they'll be woah!
Wow, where did you learn that phrase?

OK. So for homework.

Tell me, what do you have on your plate today?
What's your schedule today?

OK. We'll see you in the next lesson.
Thank you.
