Hello everyone! Welcome to E-mail Picks.
Did you hear about the typhoon in the
I heard the damages were severe where
some of my colleagues live and someone
told us that their neighborhood was
covered in mud and there were deaths.
So last week, I got an e-mail from one of my
colleagues, Arthur, and he was inviting me
to a training session that he was gonna
hold. So I was reading this e-mail and I
was going to reply that I would like to
join, but then my colleagues around me
started talking about the typhoon in the
Philippines and I couldn't help but
think about it... a lot. And then, somebody
else from another department came and
asked me for advice on some problem and
that made me think about it a lot too.
So I completely forgot to reply to
Arthur. So this morning, Arthur e-mailed me
again, saying that he hadn't gotten a
reply, and then I realized I had
forgotten all about it, but he was a
really nice guy and he wasn't angry.
He even told me that he had saved the seat
for me, just in case I still wanted to
join. So today, I'm writing an e-mail to
apologize for not replying and also to
thank Arthur for being very generous.
So here goes:
Hello Arthur, I'm sorry I didn't get back
sooner. To be honest, I had opened your
e-mail last week, but something came up at
work and my mind got preoccupied and
forgot to reply. I'm so sorry.
I know it's already late to reply, but
yes, I would very much like to join.
Thank you for being so generous and
keeping a spot for me.
Kyota. Okay, so in my first paragraph,
I'm telling Arthur why I hadn't replied
honestly. I wrote sorry twice because I
am that sorry.
"Something came up" means something
serious happened. When you write this
usually people won't ask you for details.
"Preoccupied" means you are too focused on
something that you can't do or think
about anything else. Then the next
paragraph is my message of appreciation.
Nothing special here, I'm just thanking
Arthur for being kind and thoughtful.
So there you go, an e-mail to explain why you
couldn't get back sooner.
I'm gonna stop by Arthur's
desk after this and apologize, and say
thanks directly. So anyway, that's it for
today, thank you for watching and I'll
see you next week.
