Hello everyone, welcome to E-mail Picks! I
hope everyone's doing well. So today I

have a little task that I need to ask
one of my colleagues to help me with.

Now, a business partner in Brazil has
requested a short summary of one of our

online business English programs and, of
course, usually this is not a big deal

for us. But this time our counterpart is
saying: "if possible can we have the

summary in Portuguese?"
This will help me to explain to my boss."

now I maybe know three words in Portuguese like "Bom dia,"
which means good morning,

and "boa noite," which means good night.
(How do I say good afternoon? ... I forgot.)

So basically I cannot comply with this request.

But our Brazilian colleague, Pedro, in IT probably can.
So I want to write him an e-mail to

ask if he can do the translation for us.
Now, I don't want him to think that this

is a very urgent request because our
counterpart is not in a rush and I know

he's very busy too. So, today let me show
you how to write a not-so-urgent request.

OK, so here goes:

Bom dia Pedro, How are
things going at IT? I'm really sorry to

bother you, but our business partner in
Brazil is begging for a Portuguese

translation of a summary of the Bizmates
Program. I know this has nothing to do

with your work, but would it be OK if we
asked for your help? It's nothing urgent,

but please let me stop by your desk
later to explain. I hope that will be OK.

Kyota. OK, so I'm trying to put myself in
his shoes. I wouldn't feel too happy if

someone asked me to do extra work.
That's why I wrote "I'm really sorry to bother you"

and "I know this has nothing to do
with your work."

And, it will be too direct if I wrote
something like "can you translate this

for me?" so I wrote "would it be OK if we
ask for your help?"

Okay? Then I told him that "this is nothing
urgent" very clearly, and of course it

will be rude for me to request something
like this just by e-mail. So, I'm gonna go

talk to him directly after lunch. And,
another important thing is that after I

get Pedro to agree to do the translation,
I need to make sure that our Brazilian

partner understands that this will be
the first and last time we will do any

translations. I want to leave Pedro alone
because he's a busy man. So anyway, that's

it for today. I hope this video helps you
in some way. So, thanks for watching and

I'll see you next week.
