英文メールの書き方：同僚の不安を解消する
こんなシチュエーション、お仕事でありませんか？
止むを得ない理由で同僚が欠勤することに。依頼していた書類の提出が遅れることに。本人は仕事が滞ることについて申し訳なく思っているようだが、こちらとしてはあまり気にしないでほしい。
提出が多少遅れても問題ないことをメールで伝え、同僚の不安を解消したい。

Happy New Year everyone! It's Kyota here
for another E-mail Picks video. Here at
Bizmates, we all had a few days of
spending time with family or sleeping in
and today everyone's back at the office,
it looks like some people's minds are
still in bed but that's okay, that's how
it is in the start of the year, isn't it?
Now I have to make a little proposal
later this week and I'm waiting for my
colleague, Karen to send me a report. I
needed to make an important part of the
proposal, but I heard this morning that
Karen had a family emergency and she is
not coming to work -- I hope her family is
okay -- and a few minutes ago, she sent me
this e-mail: Hi Kyota, as you may have
heard already, I have to take the day off
due to a family emergency.
I just remembered you had requested the
user feedback report by today, but
unfortunately I don't have my laptop
with me.
The earliest I'll be able to send it to
you will be tomorrow morning. Will that
give you enough time to work on your
proposal? I'm terribly sorry for not
being thoughtful enough. Karen.
OK, so it looks like Karen left her laptop
at the office and she's worried about
not being able to send the report to me
in time, but she probably has something
more important to worry about right now,
and besides I still have two more days
to prepare the proposal. So, I'm going to
write back to her to tell her not to
worry. Here goes:
Hi Karen, don't let the report
bother you; it's not as important as your
family
I still have until Friday evening to
prepare my proposal. If you are able to
come to work by then, great. If not, please
rest assured that we will figure
something out.
I hope everything is all right on your
side. Kyota. OK, so in this e-mail, I'm
trying to make it clear that sending the
report in is not a life-or-death problem
by writing "it's not as important as your
family" and "I still have until Friday
evening." Karen's family emergency may be
a life-or-death situation, so obviously
that has priority. "Please rest assured
that..." is a common phrase
you use when you want to tell
someone not to worry. So there you go, an
e-mail to offer your colleague
reassurance. Well it's a very tough way
to start a new year for Karen, so I'm
gonna keep my fingers crossed for her.
Anyway, that's it for today, thank you for
watching and I'll see you next week.
