00:10

00:16
Long Face
00:17
So, to have a long face. What does that mean? Well, if your curious please stay tuned. But first,
00:23
let's start with a quick review of last week's lesson.
00:27
Ok everyone, so imagine I ask you: What do you think about our new marketing approach?
00:34
and you think it's going to completely change the way we do things.
00:38
It's a great improvement. So how do you say that using last week's expression?
00:43
I'll give you 5 seconds. Are you ready? Alright, go!
00:50
And time is up. If you said: I think it will be a game changer.
00:56
Then that's exactly right. Well done! Thank you for remembering the expression.
01:01
Ok, now let's move on to: Long Face. Now this is what I sometimes hear.
01:07
Ok everyone, so imagine, it's been a really long, really tough week. So I for example,
01:14
I'm feeling pretty tired. I'm not feeling 100%.
01:18
So Taro, my good friend and colleague he notices and he says:
01:22
Hey Justin. Are you okay? Why so sad expression?
01:28
And I say: Well Taro, I'm just a little bit tired. It's been a tough week, a really hard week,
01:33
lots of things. Ok, well, first thank you Taro for asking me about my condition that every kind of you.
01:41
So why so sad expression? Yeah this is not bad. Not very natural.
01:46
So you might hear a native English speaker say this instead:
01:51
Are you okay? Why the long face? Ok.
01:55
So, when people are feeling sad, they're not feeling 100%, either maybe the expression
02:02
on their face changes, you can tell. So this is called a long face. Now for me
02:08
I have kind of a round face so it's not very long, but you can say: Oh Justin, are you okay?
02:14
Why the long face? You don't seem 100%, you seem a little bit sad. Are you ok?
02:20
Why the long face? Ok? Or why the sad or unhappy expression.
02:25
Long face. Alright. So pronunciation very simple, so please repeat after me everyone:
02:32
Why the long face? Your turn.
02:37
Alright very good. Ok, now if you could just read the sentence for me one more time everyone.
02:42
Are you okay? Why the long face? Go ahead.
02:47
Now I say yeah, I'm just a little bit tired. You know, it's been a tough week.
02:52
and you could respond with something like, ah don't worry. Hang in there. Everything will be fine. Ok.
02:58
Give me a little encouragement. And would make me feel a lot better.
03:02
Alright, ok, so please remember this for next time everyone. Are you okay? Why the long face?
03:08
Aright?
03:09
Ok, our bonus question this week is another way to say: to really like something.
03:16
Alright, if you know what the answer is to this, you could feel free to leave the answer in the comments below.
03:22
