Point 162 ”give it a go”

初級者向けビジネス英会話 Bizmates for beginners 第162弾は、”give it a go” です。

“Taro, I don’t know how to do this. It’s so difficult.
Can you teach me?”

“Here, you please try!”

“Give it a go!”

※give it a go 「試にやってみる・挑戦してみる」

Hello everyone, nice to see you again.
Justin here with another Bizmates for beginners video lesson.

This week's expression is
give it a go.

So, how do we use it? Let's find out in
just a moment, but first a quick review of last week's expression.

OK, now imagine I say: I'm glad the week is over.

How do you respond?
You have five seconds. Okay, go.

And time's up. If you said

Me too. How about a cold one?
Then you got it. Nice job.

Thank you for studying and
remembering the expression.

So hopefully all of you had some time to relax and

enjoy a couple of cold ones with your friends.

Alright, so moving on to "give it a go."

Now this is what I sometimes hear:

OK, I'm talking to my good friend and colleague, Taro,
and Taro is a really smart and experienced guy.

So, I say: Taro, I don't know how to do this.
It's so difficult. Can you teach me?

And Taro, he's a nice guy,
he says: Of course. And then after teaching,
he says: Here, you please try!

OK, thank you, Taro. Nice job and I think that communication is pretty clear.

I understand what he wants to say, but a more natural expression is needed.

So, what should he say?

That's right. He should say: Of course.
and then after teaching

Give it a go!

OK, very natural. So "give it a go" means please try.

So, if you learn a new skill, for example,
you should try to use your new skill.

So you should give it a go.

Alright, everyone. So, pronunciation and
rhythm; fairly standard here

OK, we have give it a go.
So i'm going to split this in half.

So first, "give it"

let's combine this together, becomes "giv'it" and "a go"
we'll combine this as well, so it becomes "ago"

Alright? So the rhythm is
Giv'it ago.

OK, everyone? Da-da da-da.
Give it a go.

OK, so one more time,
please repeat after me

Give it a go.

Alright, nice job. OK, now after my sentence:

I don't know how to do this.
Can you teach me?

That's right. Okay

Of course. Here, give it to go.

Nice work everyone. OK, so please remember this for next week.

Alright, now this week's bonus question is:

Another way to say "earthquake."

What's the answer? Please check one of
the older Bizmates for beginners video

lessons and give it a go.

OK, if you know the answer, leave it in the comments below

Alright, everyone so that is it for me this week.

Thank you always for watching our videos
have a great rest of the week and we'll see you next time.

Thank you.
