Bizmates初級ビジネス英会話 Point 113 ”Take your time”

初級者向けビジネス英会話 Bizmates for beginners 第113弾は、”Take your time” です。

「あとちょっと待って!」「了解!」
社内で良く飛び交う会話ですよね。
今回はそんな場面で使える表現をご紹介します。

ヒカとタロウは、これから打ち合わせをするようです。
「ごめんタロウ、あとちょっと待って!あと5分で準備できるから。」とヒカが言いました。
「急がなくていいよ。」と答えたい場合、あなたがタロウなら英語で何と言いますか?

“Please don’t hurry up.”「急がないで」

うーん、急いで欲しい時に、”Hurry up!”とは言いますが、
“Please don’t hurry up.”「急がないで。」は何だか不自然な表現ですね。

そこで、
“Take your time.” 「急がなくていいよ。」
と言ってみましょう。自然で丁寧な表現です。

Hello and welcome to this Bizmates for
beginners video series and today's useful

phrase is "take your time." Three
words -- take your time.

What does this mean? We will find out but
first let's do our test

OK so I say "I've heard you're
translating our website. Is that right?

It must be exciting." And you say... "It's tedious work."
Its boring work. It takes a long time.

OK I hope you got that. OK let's go on to
today's phrase "take your time." This is a

great phrase there are many
opportunities to use this phrase in your

office. So imagine

Taro is waiting for me

OK and I say: Okay, Taro, I'll be ready in five minutes, OK? I'm sorry five minutes please wait.

And Taro says: Oh yeah... please don't hurry up.

Please don't hurry up. OK it's a little bit strange

you know please don't hurry up.

OK it just... you know, if you want
them to hurry up, we could say "Hurry up!"

Hurry up! But "please don't hurry up" is a
little strange. Maybe "please don't hurry"

is okay, but a more natural and polite phrase is this one -- so I say:

Yeah, Taro, I'm sorry I'll be ready in five minutes. Please wait.

And he says:

Take your time.

Very natural! Very friendly. Very polite. Take your time. OK let's look at pronunciation.

It's just take your time. Take your time. You try... Good.

OK with my sentence: I'll be ready in
five minutes. OK? ...

OK, thank you. You're so kind.

For homework next time, I
will say "Hey, I'll be ready in five minutes,

OK?" And you say... Take your time.

OK please remember this and we will see you next time.

Thank you.
