Point 14 ”Go ahead”

“Can I sit here?”

“Please. Please.”

“Go ahead.”

Hello and welcome to this Bizmates for beginners
video series for Japanese businesspeople.

And today's phrase is a short one.
It's go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead.

What does this mean?
OK. First, we will do our test.

Do you remember? Please ask me OK.
Not what is your hobby? No.

You say...

That's right. What do you do in your free time?
That's right. I usually just play with my daughter.

OK. Did you get that?
OK. Let's go on to today's phrase.

Go ahead. Hmmm... what does this mean?
Well, this is what I usually hear OK.

So if I say to Taro, he's my co-worker, my colleague.
OK, we work for the same company.

I say, yeah Taro, ah, can I sit here?
Well maybe this is a room, can I sit here?

And he says, yeah, yeah please. Please.
Oh, oh OK. Thank you.

It's OK, please please, yeah.
But it's not necessary to say two times, please please.

Yeah, I don't know, many Japanese say it two times.
OK. So it's a little bit unnatural OK.

A more natural style is this one.
OK. So if I say to Taro, yeah Taro, can I sit here?

He says, yeah, go ahead.
Very natural. Go ahead.

It's like, sure, OK. Yeah, go ahead.
OK let's look at pronunciation.

So it's not go ahead, it's goahead.
Goahead. You try.

One more time. Goahead.
OK. So let's try it with my question.

Ah, can I sit here?
Oh, thank you.

Perfect. OK. For homework now,
I will ask you next time, can I sit here?

And you say, go ahead. OK?
So please remember that.

We will see you next time.
Thank you.
