そこで「一般的には、日本人はシャイだよね。」と言いたい時、あなたなら何と言いますか。
“Japanese are shy.”「日本人は恥ずかしがり屋です。」
と言うと、日本人全員が恥ずかしがり屋というニュアンスになり不自然に聞こえます。
そこで
“In general, Japanese are shy.”「一般的には、日本人はシャイだよね。」
と言ってみましょう。一般的にはというニュアンスになり自然に聞こえます。
