と同僚から聞かれた際に「受け入れてくれたよ！」と伝えたい場合、あなたならどういいますか？
普通に答えるなら、
“They accepted our proposal”
となるかもしれません。
でも、これだと非常につまらない答え方に聞こえてしまいます。
こんな時には親指を突き上げるポーズをし、
“They gave us the tumbs up.”
と言いましょう！
逆にうまくいかなかった場合には、
“They gave us the tumbs down.”
と言えばよいわけです。
ぜひ “up” もしくは “down” によって、トーンを変えて伝えられるようになってください！

when you're meeting someone for the first time,
when you're watching my video lessons, maybe not?

All right so let's go on to today's phrase.
Give us the thumbs up or give us the thumbs down.
What does it mean? Well this is what I often hear.
So, if I'm talking to Taro, and imagine we made a
proposal to a customer, and I want to know.
Did they accept it?
Or did they reject it?
And I say, so what did the client say about our proposal?
Did they like it?
And Taro says, they accepted our proposal.
Great, that's great news.
OK, but it's kind of boring, boring sentence.
They accepted our proposal.
They rejected our proposal.
So to give it that little spice, you could say this.
So what did the client say about our proposal?
And Taro says, hey, they gave us the thumbs up,
or they gave us the thumbs down.
And you could use the gestures too.
They gave us the thumbs up. They gave us the thumbs down.
OK, it means of course the thumbs down is they rejected it.
Down, in this case sorry they rejected it.
So, I'm very blue but if they accepted it,
it would be the thumbs up.
OK, so let's look at pronunciation.
They gave us the thumbs down, OK.
I don't know why I selected the negative one.
But anyway, they gaveus the thumbs down.
Let's look at the pronunciation,
they gaveus the and it's not thumbs,
The B is silent OK.
